Six Inexpensive Upgrades to Make

If you’re on a budget, making major renovations to your home before you sell may not be feasible. However, there are smaller improvements that you can make that will still have an impact—but won't break the bank.
1. Faucets. Replacing all of your faucets can be expensive, so instead you might consider just replacing a couple of faucets in key areas such as your kitchen and your master bathroom.
2. Door Knobs and Door Hardware. Door knobs, hinges, strike plates, and other door hardware are often an overlooked part of a home, but the right combination of new knobs and hardware can be a nice touch.
3. Switches, Outlets and Covers. Light switches, light switch covers, outlets, and outlet covers are very inexpensive, but you may be surprised how much they improve a particular room (especially if they match your new door hardware).
4. Light Fixtures. Much like faucets, light fixtures can run on the expensive side, but a few well-placed fixtures—such as in your entryway, in the kitchen or in the living room—can go a long way.
5. Crown Molding. If you’re a little bit handy around the house, this can be a fairly easy—and relatively inexpensive—DIY project. It can be tricky cutting the crown molding to fit into corners, but the end result is worth it.
6. Shelving. Adding a few wall shelves or closet shelves—even if you don’t necessarily need more storage space—can be a big plus when it comes time to sell. You might have to get creative and put shelves in places you hadn’t considered before.
The key to keeping costs down is to make upgrades only in certain areas of your home. Yes, you can certainly go all out, but you may want to save some of that money for your new home.
